Liang Haiming(梁海明)and Feng Da Hsuan (冯达旋)appointed as Dean and Honorary Dean of Hainan University’s newBelt and Road Research Institute
March 9, Haikou, Hainan Province, China: Sitting on the southern-most tip of China, leveraging
(a) the Central Government has designated the HainanProvinceto be a FreeTrade Zone and soon to be a Free Trade port,
(b) its geographical proximity to South East Asia and South Asia,
Hainan University is establishing a new Institute known as “Hainan University Belt and Road Research Institute HUBRRI (海南大学一带一路研究院.)”
Dr. LuoQingming (骆清铭,) President of Hainan University exclaimed that: “Without any question, proposed in 2013, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) which is entering the second five years, is one of the broadest and deepest global initiatives of China. The outcome of BRI will not only be transformative to China, to all the nations involved or to-be-involved, but humanity as well. As an aspiring university sitting in one of the major points of entry of the maritime silk route, Hainan University must shoulder the responsibilities to proactively be one of the higher education institutions of China to let BRI reaching its grand mission.”
Adding to the above comment, Dr. Luo said that: “Responding to this call, I am truly excited to announce that after months of searching, we have secured two world renowned scholars,
(a) Professor Liang Haiming (梁海明,) a world-class new generation of economist of China and chairman of China Silk Road iValleyResearch Institute. This Institute is the third top social think tank in China, ranked by Nanjing University and Guangming Daily.
(b) Professor Liang just completed a six-month tour to set up collaborations with Princeton University’s Institute of Environmental Institute;
(c) Professor Feng Da Hsuan (冯达旋,) a world-renowned scientist and former Vice President of Research and Economic Development of the University of Texas at Dallas to join the HUBRRI as Dean and Honorary Dean, respectively, of the Instituteas the Dean and Honorary Dean of the Institute.
It should be noted that Liang and Feng are known nationally and internationally their intensive research activities and outputs in the Belt and Road Initiative. There is no doubt that having both Drs. Liang and Feng joining our effort, it will be one of the watershed moments for Hainan University in its effort to become a first-rate university.”
Over the past 6 decades, HNU has educated a significant pool of talented people and many have accomplished outstanding achievements in a multitude of research areas. Meanwhile, HNU is also presently making significant contributions to the local society for economic, cultural as well as scientific developments. More recently, HNU is placing great emphasis in four areas, “tropic, marine, tourism, special economic zone”, focusing on the services for Hainan Province, extending the service nationally, and last but not least, outreach to Southeast Asia.
